December 02, 2004
Siemens and Chinese equipment maker Huawei recently said that they will invest US$100 million in setting up a joint venture to further their mobile telecommunications business in China. Based in Beijing, the new company will be involved in production of TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) network equipment as well as handsets.

While refraining from revealing details on how much interest each company will hold in the joint venture, both companies expect to roll out equipment for the installment of TD-SCDMA base stations by mid-2005.

Earlier, Siemens had joined forced with China's Datang Mobile to develop mobile phones compatible with TD-SCDMA network technology.
